ART PROGRAM: Elements of Art, Intermediate Art, Drawing & Sketching

$110.00 A Month Per Student. (2) 60 min. Art classes a week. Grades 1 - 8

8 classes per month. Two (2) Showcase Exhibits  per year. Participation in Exhibits are encouraged but not required.

LIA Instructors strive for excellence in teaching and communicating visual arts essentials to every student. Students learn to accept that others' preferences may differ from their own, but begin to appreciate multiple artistic solutions and interpretations. Questions asked in response to the artwork become more refined and probing. The study of historical and cultural context gives students insight into the role of the visual arts as a record of human achievement. As they consider artworks from a historical perspective, students begin to understand what they value.

DIGITAL ART PROGRAM: Foundations & Character Design - Online Only

$110.00 A Month Per Student. (2) 60 min. Art classes a week. Grades 5 - 12

8 classes per month. Two (2) Showcase Exhibits  per year. Participation in Exhibits are encouraged but not required.

Digital Art: Foundations & Character Design is a comprehensive year-long course for aspiring digital artists seeking a strong foundation in figure drawing and advanced character creation skills. In Semester 1, students build essential drawing fundamentals through hands-on units covering line control, gesture and movement, perspective, constructive anatomy (including upper- and lower-body breakdowns), value and light logic, and color theory basics. Through daily sketching habits, timed gestures, mannequin studies, grayscale exercises, and limited-palette paintings, learners develop observational accuracy, spatial understanding, and confident mark-making—culminating in a fully constructed human figure project that integrates gesture, anatomy, value, and color with an emphasis on understanding over polish.

 

In Semester 2, the focus shifts to Creative Character Design and Visual Storytelling. Students explore shape language and psychology, silhouette design, expressive posing, facial expressions, costume and prop construction, and environment integration. Through iterative processes, critique-driven refinement, and assignments like thumbnail exploration, pose sheets, expression studies, and material tests, participants learn to communicate personality, narrative, and mood effectively. The course concludes with a polished portfolio project featuring an original character, complete with gesture poses, an expression sheet, costume variations, environmental context, and a professional presentation—equipping students with the tools to create compelling, story-driven characters for games, animation, illustration, or concept art.

 

Character Design and Digital Art are advanced courses for grades 5 - 12.
